Zeigler Man Identified
The man known only as BEP has correctly identified Ted Schanafelt as being the chain that links Zeigler, Illinois to Wapella.
Ted was a great sportsman and sporting columnist for the Daily Pantagraph, as well as being a very good coach and a decent athlete himself. Many Wildcats owe their sense of hardnosed fair-play to Ted Schan, and offer a grateful round of applause to him.
As I do not have a current photo of Ted, I substitute one of Robert Conrad and Ross Martin from Wild Wild West. Ted vaguely looks like Ross Martin/Artemis Gordon, but has more of the hardball attitude of Robert Conrad/James West.
Go Zeigler!

The Conrad/West coif looks a little like Al "The Body". Conrad's hair doesn't have the height that Al's does.

Yes, but Ross Martin's is approaching (but not equalling) the full equivalent of our friend Al's.

Dear All,
Trying to do my best to pull together the Ziegler/Wapella connection. If we expand to the region, we could pull in Ike Turner, as well. Supposedly spent years in Herrin, IL. Joe Hindman did claim to have played with Ike and Tina in what must have been a fallow period when they relied on the trombone as featured instrument. Joe is from Herrin, which isn't too far from Z.
In closing, this was an interesting thread. I look forward to more of these in the future.

Keeping the Z/W thread on life suppport, I'd pull in Charlie Birger, well-known mobster. Joe H probably would have played for Charlie and his gang had he been around. Anyone know Charlie's last words on the gallows?
