Wapella, What Happened to the 19th Century?

A concerned citizen of Wapella writes

"
I heard yesterday that there will not be a Turkey Dinner at St. Pat's this year. What's going on with Wapella??…...No Corn & Bean Festival, no purple house and now no turkey dinner at St. Pat's. Is Wapella caught up with all the modern day conveniences and new construction through out the town to remember the classic/historical events? Bring it back! Start petition drives, call your neighbor's, get these event's back on schedule"

I must agree, these trademark events are what make Village of Wapella the Hog City. And beleive it or not, the food is generally very good, and comedy excellent. I am all in favor of 19th Century type of fun (dog-fighting, arm-wrestling, beard growing contests etc), but Wapella.com alone cannot get these events back on the calendar. Anyone out there joining with our Concerned Citizen to revive some of our civic feasts?

I start by nominating BEP as the Most Exalted Chair of a Beard Growing Contest as he always looked like a mini-Rick Sutcliffe. Any more hands on deck?

This is RIDICULOUS.That's all I can stand and I can't stand no more....

Here and now, I'm pledging a few things:

1. I will get the Wapella.com design of the official flag of Wapella recgonized by the village, so that we will all have a flag to fly.

2. A committe will be formed to bring back a yearly festival in the same spirit of the cornbread and bean festival.

3. I plan on having some hard talks with a few folks on why the Turkey Dinner is being done away with.

4. We still need to work on the legendary "City kids versus Country kids softball game."

The time for talk is over. These things and more need addressed, and I'm looking for a few good Wildcats to help me out.

Who's with me?

No turkey dinner blows

It is always darkest before the dawn...

I'd rather light a candle than curse your darkness, H.I., so here is my plan.

First of all, those pesky health dept. folks did in the turkey feast. No one ever died, or even got sick (except for some gluttony) yet they did in the great event. So put on a village-wide turkey fry at the park. Get the deep fat fryers out and make some black smoke.

Next: Host an "All class" soiree in 2008. Make it wet. If it is wet, they will come. Keep it informal, eat fried turkey. Have fun.

Start the Hog City Alternative Fuel Syndicate and begin dealing directly with the EU to sell local ag products for bio-diesel usage. Sorry Greg.

We can do the beard thing, although I don't look good as an Amish/House of David bearded wonder. Beyond that, get the Tweed Film Festival and Alternative Life Style Festival plans cooking as EEP and I have set forth. EEP will publish the vision statement soon.

Finally, for round 1, our humble beginning, get the rural v. urban softball game scheduled.

This is just the beginning.

Note to EEP: if you want the Turkey Dinner back join St. Pats and take it on.

How about Hog City Festivus at the park. Make it the same weekend every year (Summer or late Fall)Fall Classic each year (city kids vs country kids softball or Baggo championships.). Clinton has the Apple & Dork festival each year last weekend in September, make this the last weekend (Saturday) in October. No harvest excuses for not coming. Have Toohill Beef cook a hog and some beef brisquet(BEP surely has a southern dry rub recipe) get some sponsorship beverages from the three tavern resources in this fine village and away we go. Question is: Would the park allow for this one weekend a liquor license for the town Festivus. All money and proceeds could go back to the fine community. EEP, this could be just like your wish of having an 'Old School' style fraternity. Get the ball rolling!

Kind of like the Mod's Cornish hen party a few years back. Get these plans in motion.

The fine citizens of hog city have 100% support of myself and all of Toohill Seed & Beef Services resources.

1. Health departments can be dealt with. Break out those deep fryers and gets some Amish raised turkeys from my friend in Arthur to feed the Irishmen. No problem NEED MAN POWER!

2. Have the corn bread and bean festival in the park the same weekend they have Wapellapolusa (?)at the circle. Ham from corn fed hogs on Irish row no problem NEED MAN POWER!

3. Watching the country kids make the townies cry no problem NEED MAN POWER!

Get the point? No problem NEED MAN POWER!

MrToohillBeef said Manpower. He's right and the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. So Wapella Corn and Bean Festival meetings were held from spring to fall in the form of potluck suppers at various member's home with a huge gathering after the event. Start cooking and callin.

do I smell some corporate sponsorship? the 2008 Mr. ToohillBeef/Cornbread and Bean Festival. I like it.

We've got to throw in some entertainment and that would be Jimmy Holland and crew.

Who is a better sponsor than Wapella.com. Come on Mod, you can use the write off.
