Wapella.com Drops Irish, Picks up the Badgers

Much like one of our esteemed investment brokerages downgrading a stock after it has already dropped, The Board of Wapella Historians has demoted the Fighting Irish following their Saturday loss to Washington State. Not to be left out, we have taken on the Wisconsin Badgers as an appropriate team to back for the rest of the tourney.

In honor of soon to be Madison resident (and recent Middle Easter), Sgt. John Earl Wheat, who I had the pleasure joining for Easter Mass this morning, Wapella.com has officially shifted loyalties to the Wisconsin Badgers, ignoring any bold statements made in the past (again like a stock picker). Go Big Red!

As much as I hate it, I agree to the backing of the badgers.

Is it me or does Wisconsin's Mascot strangely resembles Bo Ryan?? Sometimes I think to myself why is the mascot in front of the bench, Ohh, Its just Bo!

Anyone traveling to Redbird Arena tonight?? big NIT game, Go Redbirds!

I'll be there!

Shouldn't we Wildcats be supporting other Wildcats left in the tournament?
Davidson or Villanova.

Didn't this whole thing start over the idea that the small schools don't belong in the tournament?

Well I think they have proven that they do.

Ask yourself which games were the most fun to watch, and then think about who was playing in them.

I say we expand the tournament to 128 teams!
The more the merrier!!!!

128

Using BEP's logic Clinton Basketball was better than Wapella Basketball.

Clinton played in the best sports conference in the state for small schools. (Corn Belt)

The last time we played them they beat us by 19. (Blowout? Not really.)

The only time we beat them was on a neutral court.
BEP's logic states that the BIGS are to play on their home court with their refs. We did that that very same year and lost. It doesn't matter that our center was ill and missed the game and that our moderator missed a bunch of lay-ups.

It doesn't matter that Clinton generally refused to put us on their schedule. (We would ask every year)

Using BEP's logic Clinton was the best in the County. After-all they did beat every school in the county in 1982. It doesn't matter that they never had a schedule like that again, to defend that claim of DeWitt County Champs.

It doesn't matter that our '76 team never played theirs.

Clinton is a "BIGS" therefore the best.

I like to use the logic that states:
"You Prove It On The Court."

I like to use the logic that thinks since Clinton was generally to scared to play us that they can make no claims of supremacy.

If you want to use BEP's logic then Clinton was always the best because they are the BIGS.
Anytime we beat them was a fluke. Because that happens. FLUKES. BEP says so.

No-matter what happened on the court.

No-matter that they refused to play.

Using BEP's logic:
Wapella was never as good as Clinton.

My goodness.......can we bring back a thread with George Jones and that guy who looks like he just got back from a trip to Decatur? By the way, I just got back from Decatur yesterday. bbd

1. I can't stand idly by and watch BEP get railed. To wit: we must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men. I cannot be indifferent to these scathing comments about BEP's "logic" and how it relates to Wapella v. Clinton, lest I be worse than an evil man....

Therefore, I must ask you to cease and desist these comments, good sir, or face the wrath of the Wapella.com Board!

2. Go CUBS!

Enough of the madness Redbird, I suggest you go to the desert for a while & bring Saluki along. Holy week has come and gone.

It is a perfect analogy.
Wapella was a small school.
Clinton was a big school in a power conference.

Let me get this straight. It is not appropriate for someone to use your exact reasoning or truths or proof, in an analogy, to prove a point. Isn't that why we were taught geometry?

Come on Wapella people!

Remember where you come from!

I agree with everything EEP except for his #2 comment of Go Cubs!! I once walked into a party and saw him donning a McGwire jersey and the next year he was rooting for the Cubs. I persoanlly have exiled him to "nowhere-ville" as a baseball fan and cannot take anything he speaks on the game of baseball seriously. I mean come'on, my question is can you once root for the Cardinals and then root for the Cubs?? Or vice-versa? I think not...

Anonymous said...

That jersey was a joke for the sake of one J.D. Finger. IRBW can verify. We went to a game in STL and then came back for my Grandma's 70th b-day party.

Anonymous said...

Millz,
That is correct about EEP. He was a Cardinal fan in 1982, loved Keith Hernandez & co. Became a Cub fan in 1984(Sandberg) and has stayed a true Cub fan from that point on. However he did wear that McGwire jersey with pride in '98.
This might be the Cubs year unless Izturis can shoulder the load at Short for the Cardinals and Mulder pitches above 75mph.

What do you guys agree with?

The superiority of Clinton Basketball?

bep's statements lead directly to that conclusion.

The only thing I loved about "Mex" Hernandez was that he smoked in the dugout. I became a Cubs fan in 1983, thanks to Mr. Mel Hall, Millz, Jeff Finger and my Grandpa.

Redbird - no one here thinks Clinton is superior to Wapella. Least of all BEP. So.....at this point, who are you arguing with? You've made your point. Your ship has weathered every rack, the prize you sought is won. No one is debating you. Your napkin theories are tops.

Never said anything about Clinton. Made light of a comment re Illinois beating AZ ST (alma mater) in Hawaii that was taken out of context. The point being, who you beat doesn't qulaify later in the season. Case in point: Illini beat the 78-79 MSU team in Champaign. Does that mean the Illini are national champions. No.

By the way, why didn't ISU play IWU in hoops for so long?

While you are busy talking about "bigs", ISU has more students than many of the "bigs". So go get in a "big" conference.

Personally, I don't think it is worth getting myself into a lather worrying about the NCAA tournament. It is entertainment. Some of you would be great SEC football fans, worrying about the least little thing. For crying out loud, these are kids playing.

If it helps, the Clinton HS hoops team in 1977 or so was pretty good, and probably would have killed Heyworth, Wapella, etc.

What is important: Does Al help Bo with his hair?

Go Diablos del Sol.

BEP,

The Valley is a Big Conference!

I have realized that I am arguing with someone who doesn't really understand basketball, and probably never played. Someone who probably sides with the banks (BIGS) in the predatory lending argument. Someone not worth my time.

EEP has given me the golden napkin of points proven, so I'm done.

I would think almost everyone is against it.

Who is the Big O?

1. Wilt Chamberlain set all the records;
2. Kareem Abdul Jabbar broke many of those records;
3. Bill Russell won 11 NBA titles, but;
4. All of those men claimed that Oscar Robertson was the baddest MF to ever step on the court.

The Big O is #4

RB wins the empirical data award simply because I was going to try to prove him wrong and I couldn't. I thought he was making that stuff up.

I haven't been this entertained since the notorious leaf burning string.
That ended UGLY though.

Maybe one of them is a Beatles fan and the other is a Rolling Stones fan, that would be fun to watch. Or maybe R.E.M. and U2?

Oh well,
I guess all's well that ends well.

Clinton was in a Power Conference? Maybe resembled the Robert Palmer lead band "Power Station" as an
80's band. Maybe the Big Ten needs to recruit from 'Power Conference' and stop wasting time in Chicago.

Anonymous said...

Ron Burgundy, is that you as redbird? I knew i recognized your argumentative qualities from somewhere. The MVC was a good conference last year, this year however couldn't get past a hot shooting Western Kentucky. The Big Ten had a lousy year this year but has a suprisingly fundamentally sound Badger team and a Spartan team coached by one of the best coaches in March playing in the sweet sixteen. Do i think these teams will win a championship? Of course not. I will be suprised if either makes the final four. ISU, Southern and probably other Valley teams will be good next year. If ISU did not get beat by 30+ points in the MVC championship game, they would have been in.

I like the Beatles better than the Stones but enjoy both. Have not listened to enough U2 to comment, but I did see where the Edge's house is on the sea in Howth, Ireland. Like REM.

Strongly recommend Death Cab for Cutie. Saw them in concert with the chirren a couple of years back and enjoyed the music.

As far as ending the "cage match" as HG called it, I can listen to that on talk radio everyday here in Dixie and don't see any purpose in getting roiled up about a bunch of post-pubescents. Sorry to disappoint.

The Beatles, The Kinks and The Who are all better than The Stones.

Band recommendation for this issue: The Mice, a power-pop trio from Cleveland, who are criminally underrated. Get the CD "For Almost Ever Scooter" which is everything they ever did. It's like early Who but with Cleveland power pop sensibilities.

P.S: Ray Davies is at the Chicago Theater April 1. You going, Mod? The wife and I will be there.

What was the best game so far irbw?
MVC 3 year sweet 16 % still tops.

EEP,
Thanks for the recommendation of The Mice.
Never heard of them.
What songs do you recommend?
RB

RB,

Really, the whole CD is great, but I'd say the best tunes are:

Bye Bye Kitty Cat
Little Rage
Downtown
Second Best
Not Proud of the USA

It's a great CD, if you like catchy power-pop. They should've been huge.

Anonymous said...

Redbird, what is the MVC's 3yr final four %?
Thanks,

The Stones are third behind The Beatles and The Who.

IRBW, if you broke down and bought one Kinks album, you would realize you are sadly mistaken.

I'm burning you a double best of the Kinks this weekend and you will see....

EEP,

IRBW,

This whole thing was about who deserved to be in the tournament. Winning two games is a pretty good indication of that.

What is the Big 10 # in the all time starting 5?

Question for all of you hoops maniacs: what is a big? Is the A-10 a "big" conference? Xavier has been to two final eights in the past couple of years. Temple and St. Joes have had success as well. Are they "mids"? Are we counting the BCS conferences as "bigs"? Georgetown plays D III football.

Is "mid" a state of mind?

Your thoughts?

Any conference that has Rick Majerus coaching in it is a Big conference.

In all seriousness, it boils down to what the talking heads on t.v. say; because that seems to be what the committee takes into account.

Coach Majerus is "prosperous".

ENOUGH SAID!!!!

Anonymous said...

Hey you Damascus Boys!

Does it feel good to root against the underdog?

Does it make you feel powerful?

Anonymous said...

It is very easy to pick the last underdog standing and say that is the reason why so many more small schools should be in the tournament, but I beleive alot of people saw a run (maybe not to the Elite 8) from Davidson coming. It wasn't like they weren't ranked this year and they did have the longest winning steak (and still do) coming into the tournment. I myself had them picked to beat Gonzaga and Georgetown but I did had Wisconsin beating them. My point is they lost to UNC by 4, Duke by 6 and UCLA by 12. They are obvisouly a quality team, that being said you can't say the same for teams like ISU who didn't play anybody and then expect the committee to give them the benefit of the doubt. I don't care what conference you root for, if you don't go out and schedule a tough non-conference schedule, please don't complain that you got rooked when the committee leaves you out.

Anonymous said...

Keep up millz,

It has already been established that the BCS schools bought out the MVC schools contracts for scheduled games.
Remember the whole coward argument?

There is too much parity in college hoops to act like the bigs are the only ones who belong.

You guys have obviously been brainwashed by FUDGE and NANCY.

Your last paragraph proves the point. The BCS schools do exactly what you talk about.
"if you don't go out and schedule a tough non-conference schedule, please don't complain that you got rooked when the committee leaves you out."

Canceling games with teams you thought you could easily beat, but end up beating you, is not how you make a tough non-conference schedule.
