Lighting up with Rockpile

This one is like tossing a time-bomb of good will in the fray, exploding in 2:52 with maximum rock and roll shrapnel. Here's Rockpile doing Girl's Talk in 1979 or so.

What Wapella celebrity does Nick Lowe (the Jean-Jacket-wearing prematurely-Grey-Haired Bass Player) resemble most?

Update: Picture the Bass Player with a mustache driving around Wapella in a 77 Royal Blue Cobra Mustang, and you will have the ultimate answer.

Winner! Yes it is Wapella's own Rick Johnson. One of the greatest guys ever to grace Hog City, and becoming one of the grand old men of DeWitt County, Rick Johnson looks most like Nick Lowe with a Mustache in 1978. Congratulations to HG for his insightful observation.

My vote: the elderly Nick Lowe looks like former tavernista Mike Girdler (sp?).

Bravo, Mr. Edmunds, et al. for a very pleasant, hummable tune. I particularly enjoyed the nonchalance on display from all band members. I found out today that his talent was also put to use in generating the soundtrack for "Porky's Revenge."

Are looking for the coolest cat around?

Todd Ryan?

pause it and you'll see the resemblance better

from afar the drummer looks like one of our honorary Wildcats back when he was skinny.

How about Dave Oakley on lead?

Not sure about any Wapella lookalike connections, but I just started my day off by running this tuneful tune again. It is a happy song!

HG,

Think you are losing it...despite the upbeat tempo and rocking twang, the song is about a murder.

Did not try in any way to interpret the lyrics--just the happy beat.

Much more pleasant than the cage match going on next door between BEP and RedBird.

I'm going to have to defend HG on this one, you would have to read the lyrics to get any connotation of murder.
What do you think, he is a rocket scientist or something?

Here are the lyrics.

There are some things you cant cover up with lipstick and powder
I thought I heard you mention my name, cant you talk any louder ?
Dont come any closer, dont come any nearer
My vision of you cant get any clearer
Oh, I just want to hear girls talk
I got a loaded imagination being fired by girls talk
But I cant say the words you want to hear
I suppose youre going to have to play it by ear
Right here and now

Girls talk and they want to know how
Girls talk and they say its not allowed
Girls talk, if they say that its so
Dont you think that I know by now

That the word up on everyones lips
Stick that youre dedicated
Though you may not be an old fashioned girl
Youre still going to get dated
Was it really murder ?
Were you just pretending ?
Lately I have heard you are the living end

Girls talk and they wanna know about her
Girls talk, they wanna know if I care
Girls talk and they wanna know where
Girls talk girls talk

LG,

Thanks for the assist. I'd never done a close text reading of these lyrics before. I think I'd need extra-lyrical information to know the full story.

Speaking of rocket scientists, I would like to encourage Mr. Mod to post the simple, yes primal, video of Prof. Richard Feynman's inspiring tribute to orange juice with bongo accompaniment:

HG,

You are welcome.

I want some orange juice!

Elvis Costello wrote it and said it was about a murder and coverup.

It is hard to follow from the lyrics, I agree, but I recall him saying that Linda Rondstadt didn't know what it was about and Dave Edmunds didn't care.

Why don't the Democrats just reduce the number of delegates required to get the nomination by the exact percentage that FL and MI represent?

So lets say the two states have 17% of total delegates.
If one needed 2000 delegates to get the nomination, then change it to 1660 delegates needed for the nomination.

Doesn't this make sense?
Should someone suggest this to the Democratic Party?

Yours truly,

Directional Man

Mickey Mouse.

Directional man speaks fine logic -democracy is really inconvenient and rarely brings out the best in people (much like the NCAA tourney). I think the practical problem is that the candidate that is extremely unlikely to overcome delegate and and highly unlikely to overcome the popular vote deficit still thinks she has a little bit of a chance on popular vote if she picks up some sweet MO in PA. I tend to think the popular vote winner will get the nomination. I think she should step down if she doesn't make up significant ground in popular vote after PA. Math is not on her side. I don't think Mr. Dean (not Starnes, Stevens, Karr, or Jones) will allow the proration idea until it plays out a little longer and it is clearer that the delagates and popular vote are pretty much settled.

Back on point with Rockpile, after an ugly rumor, I do not think that is Frank Beard drumming. There was also an ugly rumor about Frank Beard's untimely passing - also appears to be untrue. He did have an emergency appendectomy a few years ago. bbd

They should have prorated it at the same time they decided to not count the votes in FL and MI.

Is it even possible for anyone to reach the required delegate count now?

Obie can't make it unless he swept completely (impossible unless he made Charlie McCubbins his running mate) and got more super d's to shift....just short if he swept completely....great website has the delegate calculator....he's got just over 1600, there's around 300 left but he needs 2025 bbd
