Patrick Swayze, the acclaimed dancer and actor has died at age 57, after a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. Swayze, best known in Wapella for his lead role in the 1984 movie Grandview USA, set in Pontiac, Illinois, was a multi-talented performer, suceeding in action movies like Red Dawn (another Wapella favorite), high energy musicals (which should be banned in Wapella) Dirty Dancing, and romantic tearjerkers (can't get enough of it) Ghost.
A likable, self-depreciating (despite being named People's Sexiest Man Alive) all-purpose star, Swayze was married his wife Lisa from 1975 till his recent death. RIP Patrick Swayze, a class act.
Here's Swayze cutting it up with Chris Farley, both great dancers. HT Jason Karr

Wasn't there a Swayze look a like in WHS is the 90's?
Speaking of look a likes, who looks most like AW?
Jason Bateman or Jay Leno or someone else?
Was it Fentris?
Chuck Daly as Al Weinheimer. Too easy, next.
Concur on the Chuck Daly look. With some hard living Al could look more and more like his idol, Kenny Stabler.
A lofty goal. Al is up to it.
BEP
how about your favorite Roadhouse memories? that movie rules.
Do the events of the last couple of days make you feel more or less racist?
Good question Uppity - I'm not sure how Swayze's departure will impact race relations.
Dear Uppity,
Methinks you want to steer this blog into a putrid malarial swamp downstream of a sewage treatment plant so as to get stuck in its mud. I decline comment on your inquiry.
Back on topic, Swayze's spirit is captured well in wapella.com's posted video tribute. RIP P. Swayze.
HG
Who was the lookalike?
sorry HG, my curiosity & love of free speech outweighs my better judgment - Uppity - please for the love of Wapella without explanation - what event are you refering to? bbd
My guesses would be:
Kayne West
Sarina Williams
NAACP reaction to the school bus beating
Back to Swayze...was he related to John Cameron? Did he use Timex watches?
Swayze, Roadhouse, Circle....Mike Gurdler sort of thought he was like Dalton the Bouncer so touchingly potrayed by Swayze.
Obviously
Dear Uppity,
The media has the integrity of professional wrestling. It would appear that reporting real news is secondary to incendiary rants that folks will rally around.
Stupid is as stupid does: if folks in the spotlight want to behave badly then let them. Don't dwell on it.
Good thing Walter C. is gone. This tripe must have him spinning in his grave.
The video points out one thing: Farley was a much better dancer than Swayze.
BEP
So Say the POTP!
Thanks anon - that helps.
To try to answer uppity's question - the behavior of the stars and People mag, ladies tennis quibbles, and the implication of a fight on a bus between 16 year olds has made no dent with my thoughts about race relations.
Swayze rules! Anyone have any stories from Pontiac? I'm pretty sure the Jackson's visited the movie set.
bbd
bbd--my recollection is that the Wapella Jackson family actually appeared as paid extras in Grandview USA. Can any Jacksons confirm? More importantly, can they report any interaction with Swayze?
HG
JL Curtis had a ham sandwich at the Apple & Pork Festival. So maybe Swayze was there too?
Erin Grey looked better with her original nose.
Uh, that would be JENNIFER Grey .....sorry.
I like big noses on the laidies.
She kind of looks like Joel Grey in drag now, maybe from Cabaret.
Wolverines! R.I.P. Swayze.
Wapella.com once made the connection between Swayze and J.E. Wheat. Maybe that's what Anon means.
Cuz,
Did the NAACP actually say that or is that conjecture?
Fan of BBD,
I think the Pantagraph comment pages remain open for discussion of your favorite topic matter of school bus violence, etc. They wear me out on the gentile pages of wapella.com.
Back on topic to Swayze's demise. As a side note on Roadhouse: I visited the mountain near Blacksberg, Virginia where many scenes were filmed. Kind of like a trip to Mecca for me. Mountains, Mohammed, etc. I recall the Swayze character had a philosophy degree from NYU.
HG
I was going to post some harsh words for HG, but I didn't want to hurt his feelings. I am a big fan of his too.
bbdbf
Who is HG anyway
The freakin hall monitor?
1) Was Evy Strange the Executive in Charge of all Hall Monitors?
2) Anon, still need that link. I don't want to have Pantagraph style comments.
moderator
I don't know how to put a link on here, but it was on, and everyone in southwestern Illinois saw it. bbdbf
Find it on the web. cut and paste it (or just retype it) to your post. I didn't find anything by googling it.
mod
I'll look.
Thanks for the chance.

"Wolverines!" is a dangerous fantasy. This is not the time for a revival. The brush is dry, and those who don't get a pitchfork will be reckless with the torches.
Please don't censor me, but it looks like Tipper Gore got a grip on W.com.
BEP
PS: HG is a wise voice.
Who is the Doug Wesley of Wapella?
The Roadhouse Chamber of Commerce
What happened to the love letter to bbd?
dang - I missed a love letter. c'mon Mod you are killing me. Hey I just wanted to know what I missed on race relations and the answer was not a darn thing in my humble opinion. Jimmy Carter apparently disagrees.
Great Question - Brad Wesley, played by the great Ben Gazzara, is one of my all time favorite movie villians. He was good with guns, has a foxy lady sidekick who sort of like a Landers twin, he's got a karate kicking henchman that looks like Nick Charles, and kind dressed like Marlon Perkins/Mr. Rourke from FI. I'd probably go with the Moderator. bbd
Hey BEP,
I get pissed at Tipper Gore, usually about twice a year, for no apparent reason. I am always mowing and an 80's rock song is playing.
This has been happening for the last 9 or 11 summers.
Maybe I need your Irish Sunscreen.

Bad news, Anon: Red Dawn remake is in the works.
If C.Thomas Howell armed and killing Communists is wrong, I don't wanna be right.
P.S: Speaking of 'pitchforks' and 'dry brush,' (sounds like Spinal Tap lyrics) the only thing that would please me more is if Shannon Tweed joined him.
Concur on TG and ST. Yes, you need some Irish sunscreen.
Brad W's "pet" as Dalton called her, was feral.

I love the .22 Long Rifle cartridge. It is, and has long been, my favorite cartridge. I can do at least ninety percent of what I need to do with a rifle chambered for that dandy little cartridge. It is an excellent cartridge for small game, and can also be used to harvest turkey and deer, if necessary. I am glad that I have other, more powerful rifles at my disposal, but if I had to pare down to just one rifle, it would be chambered for the .22 Long Rifle cartridge. That answer usually disappoints people who ask me the “If you could only have one” question, which is, by the way, a rather rude question, akin to asking a man to choose his favorite child or something. I suppose that most folks expect me to choose something larger, and I do love big-bore rifles, but none are quite as versatile as a good twenty-two. It is distasteful to think that I would ever have only one rifle, but if it came down to it, it would have to be a twenty-two. Rifles chambered for that cartridge have been around for well over a century, and the .22 Long Rifle is the most popular cartridge in the world.

Isn't it impossible to actually get any mowing done while using Irish Sunscreen?
Irish Sunscreen does slow the mowing process. It also requires extra hydration, including pints of plain. Applied in generous portions it can stop stray .22 LRs coming from vigilante neighbors.
F. O'Brien
I like 22's.
