Wapella.com Mourns The Passing of Roy Martin


Roy F. Martin, 87, Waynesville, died at 5:31 p.m. Tuesday (June 29, 2010) at his residence in Waynesville.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hallsville Christian Church, Hallsville, with Fred Hansen officiating. Burial will be in McClimans Cemetery, Hallsville, with military honors. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, Hallsville. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Hallsville Christian Church, Little Galilee Christian Assembly or OSF Hospice.

He was born March 1, 1923, at Wapella, son of Fredrick Lee and Effie Melvina Houchin Martin.

He married Mary M. DeMent on Jan. 12, 1946, at Clinton.

Surviving are his wife, Mary M. Martin, Waynesville; three sons, Dennis (Mary) Martin,
Rochester, Minn.; Max (Nancy) Martin, Morrisville, N.C.; and Dee Jay (Debra) Martin, Waynesville; two sisters, Dorothy Weber, Wayne City, and Doris Builta, LeRoy; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters.

He was a farmer and he raised livestock.

He was a member of Hallsville Christian Church, Hallsville, and a member of the Masonic Lodge DeWitt 84 AF&AM.

All flags half mast please for U.S. Navy veteran Roy Martin who, served during World War II from 1942 to 1946.

Mary Martin. Taught second grade at Wapella. In 1964. One of the best teacher I ever had.
