You certainly wouldn't want to be Marooned in Dixie all alone, away from all Hog City civilization and gracefullness. Well the Rambling Wrecks waltzed all over the Fighting Irish Saturday led by a Marooned Quarterback from the county seat of DeWitt County. Taylor Bennett, son of Wendi Jones, grandson of Dee-ann Jones passed for 121 yards and orchestrated a rushing attack that clocked in at 265 yards . The game was for real, as it was witnessed first hand by at least 2 '79 Wapella Wildcats, and 1 Maroon who is currently a resdient of Wapella, ending up in a 33-3 shaking down of the thunderous Irish.
While on the subject of 1979 WHS, Wapella.com wishes warm birthday greeting to 'Bama Ex Pat", BEP on these boards, one of our greatest contributors and a proud citizen of Dixie. BEP, always one to pull for the home team, may have had mixed emotions as the Irish took their shellacking, but QB Bennet should be glad to know that at least one Wildcat is rooting for him this year.
Way to go QB Bennet and BEP!

Mod, Thanks for the birthday wishes. My football allegiance lies with the maroon and gold of Arizona State. Please note the dearth of Irish surnames on the ND squad. My father pointed this out to me as a lad. Ever since then I have not been an Irish booster.
As an aside, ND fans and Alabama fans (daughter #1 attends school there) are probably the most insufferable fans anywhere.
Nice photos: parts of Surinam are nicer than Clintucky.

happy birthday, brother. wish i was enjoying some sweet tea and pork butt with you today!

Happy Birthday Old Cousin,
I must correct Wapella.com, at the Nebraska vs. Illini in 1986 at Memorial Stadium, BEP got fed up with the Illini and started pulling for the Cornhuskers. He was roundly booed, only to be supported in his cheering of the visitors by a midget wearing a Cornhuskers jersey.
A very brave pair they made.
Birthday wishes to my official mentor, and President of the committee-who-cannot-be named, who plan to put Wapella on the map with film festivals and sand volleyball matches!
Re: ND and lack of Irish surnames: I had the same conversation with Buddy and Pete Toohill once at the Circle during a ND basketball game.
"You're from Alabama...hahaha...I'm from Chicago"
"No you're not, you're from Danville..."
"Oh yeah...."
Mod: I recall the Husker/Illini debacle. Wasn't it 21-0 before the Illini gained a yard? There was a derisive cheer from the crowd.
The "Little Guy", who worked at Alexanders on Green Street, was an old UIUC fave.
You and I departed Memorial Stadium at halftime and went to the TX house for some fellowship.
BEP
BEP,
was that the same illini football game when you went off on lou henson after the game? when BEP starts ranting, it can be frightening!
let's all join in roasting BEP on his birthday!
trc
TRC,
It was a night game. BEP vs. Henson was a day game.
I recall BEP and the guy from Alexanders singing "You and me against the world". The odd thing was, if you tossed in baritone Jack Morris (who was also backing a winner) their singing voices blended perfectly in three part harmony.

Happy birthday to any and all Ryan's that are celebrating. I understand I am losing a good neighbor out on Irish Row. Please let me know if you need help with the move. When my grandparents move to town and I moved to the farm Buddy said "eeh people come and go but there heart always stays at home" I miss our roadside chats that's for sure.
My daughter started preschool at Clinton FCC. Wildcat offspring families represented were Baker,Westfall,a Rich/Ship cross and Toohill. I think they are blending nicely with the Maroons
Happy B-day BEP. I will wear my Cardinal hat just like your favorite cardinal pitcher: One Anthony "no win" Reyes in your honor.
Speaking of Illini hi-jenks, could BBD enlighten the W.com faithful of the story of his roomate T.Dwyer trying to frame Doug Altenburger for taking a copied exam on Green street to get him kicked off the team. Let's hope the over-hyped Big Ten Network gets a hold of this to not allow Doug in the booth.

Lou had it coming. Never won a big game. Mod, don't recall the duet.
I don't live in Hog City, but I am asking for a ban on anything Reyes-like until he can break two wins.
I would like to hear the Altenberger exam story as well.
Finally, Bham has D'ville beat by miles.

Sorry, the TJD and DA story can only be told in person - I do a lot of physical comedy with that story.
BEP what is left to be said that hasn't been said already. The redbirds even picked up a game on your special day. bbd
BBD: Physical comedy = slo dancin'?

As BBD can attest to, none of Dwyer's campus antics can be published online as a matter of Homeland Security. I do recall a sleeping contest between BBD and Tim in which I believe BBD prevailed- just don't remember the winning hours.

I also have very fond memories of the Mod (aka Mr. Beer) on campus. (try not to double post this one-damn computers) RJT
RJT - where the heck have you been? About time you chimed in.
The real winner of the competition was that mysterious guy on another floor - he had great hair and actually looked like one of the Gallagher boys.
Mr. Beer's hunting vest/ice set up, tight basketball shorts, bald wig, and mascara kit should be on display somewhere. I typically see a lot of kids in the neighborhood pull out that costume come October. Nice to see the young kids paying their respect. bbd
