Quick tip of the Cardinal Hat to Stan the Man

Add it up: .331 Average and 3630 Hits, there is no one better St. Louis Cardinal than Stan Musial. The St. Louis Cardinals dedicated Stan Musial Drive on Sunday, renaming the street in front of Busch Stadium in honor of the franchise's greatest player.

Tribune Story Here

How about it Hog City? Is there room for a Musial Lane? How about it Cub Fans...Paul Reuschel Road? George Mitterwald Boulevard? "Tarzan" Joe Wallis Parkway?

Whale Drive? Baron Boulevard? Maybe Carmen Fanzone can play his horn with AJW, if he isn't doing guest shots on the Sopranos. Maybe Joe Pepitone on the hair dryer?

Not to start a battle with the Cub fans because, God love them, they are eternally optimistic. So was the captain of the Titanic.

"Cubs Baseball, celebrating a century of futility".

Would a Cub Bear World Series appearance portend the Apocalypse?

Aaaahhh, you Cardinal fans never cease to amaze me with your witt. Actaully if we can win the National League this year, we will be tied with your mighty Cardinals in NL pennants, as you are a whole 1 ahead of us at the moment.

What a dominant bunch of Birds being just 1 ahead of us lowly Cubs...

But how many ahead in World Series trophies? I know...I just opened a can of worms.

My point being that you have to guage the level of futility. In the 1990's were the Buffalo Bills a formitable team or a laughing stock? And they never won a Superbowl...

Anonymous said...

all what that means, is when the cubs relax because they made it to a world series, the cardinals do not relax but play at top notch in the world series

except in 2004 against the Red Sox

and in '82 against the Royals...

82 won against the Brewers for the 9th World Series championship, '85 in my opinion should be considered the 10th World Series title if it weren't for the blown Don Dekinger call at first that let the Royals steal one. '87 and '04 lost to two superior teams and '06 got hot at the right time.

Cubs look solid this year. Maybe need one more starting pitcher to get them to October but the offense is stacked like an AL team.
Trade you Isringhausen for Marmol.

IRBW you are too funny, I wouldn't trade you Isringhausen for Wood, and that is something I NEVER thought I would say....

On another note the NL central looks pretty stacked when putting it up against other divisions in baseball. Anyone think of another division that might have 4+ better teams? And Pittsuburg would be 5 games over .500 if you take out the 1-8 recrd against the Cubs.....

What IRBW meant to say is that the STL organization will offer Isringhausen to anyone who will pick him up. Kind of like Problems and Solutions.

The 1985 Series: don't forget Jack Clark missed a foul pop earlier that inning. No excuses.

Perhaps the Cardinals can post Isringhausen in the "Good Neighbors" section of the Pantagraph. Surely would someone would pick him up from there...

I think the brewers are looking for a quality relief pitcher!! Us cubs fans would prefer to see Izzy stay in the central!

Thanks,

How about Jimmy Baseball's catch in Center last night? The Cubs will enjoy his leadership out in center this year. Like i told EEP, his is a difference maker.

he is a difference maker. his sounds like KY Grad.

It was a very nice catch out there last night. I was happy to see him make it, and for once, he looked something other than forlorn in the dugout, but he is no difference maker.

However, I'll take catches like that and the occasional longball for $290,000.

BEP and I couldn't even get Tweed to make an appearence at her own Film Fest in Wapella for that short money.

FUNNY

WITTY

The Englishman is funny, he makes me laugh.

The Irishman is witty, he makes me think.

Edmonds is still overpaid. Not to jinx him, but he is a bit fragile and seems to find a way to get hurt. He'll enjoy seeing Izzy when he joins the Cubs. The Cards are willing to take 10 lbs of Italian Beef and gravy. Sport peppers on the side.

I'm a Cubs fan, but it's not hard to see that Stan The Man was probably one of the top five players of all time....extremely consistent in every way: from year to year, versus left or right, home or away. He hit over .300 for each of the first seventeen years of his career, and had a .330 average at the age of 42 in 1962.

But the Cubs will make it to the World Series before the Cards' next appearance.

That's a pretty bold statement, North of Wapella! But, you Cub fans have had lots of practice making predictions of the northsiders' next World Series appearance. Hope you're around for it!

Let's forget about Cubs/Cards talk and shift the focus back the BULLS!
How about them having a 1.5 % chance of landing the #1 pick and getting it last night. Who should they pick: Rose or Beasley? I would hope they choose Rose and trade away Hinrich. This draft could bring them back to the dynasty of the 90's. What is your thoughts Lips? Haven't heard from you in a long time.

Where is the Friday ROCK 'N' ROLL? How about a little number from THE CLASH to get things rolling into the holiday weekend, mod?

The Bulls should take Beasley. The kid is a monster. IRBW's hatred for Hinrich still baffles me. I just don't get it.

As for the Cubs, they should win the Central. The one concern if I were a Cubs fan would be the starting pitching. Although when you have one of the highest payrolls in baseball, there are no excuses not to win.

The Bulls question is tough.

I'd say since Gooden gets like 15pts/6-8 boards per and operating under the assumption that Rose makes him better (as he should) you could be looking at Gooden going like 20pts/10 boards a game and Rose doing what he does every game. Wow.

I'd take Rose unless the "we'll give you the second pick and such and such" offer or the trade bait is too good to pass up. I'd certainly like D-Wade and Beasely!

Anonymous said...

EEP,
I am amazed that you think Gooden is a solid player, heck he wasn't even that good in college. If he were to ever get that stupid look off his face I might say he is a decent ROLE player.

I am with IRBW on Hinrich though, he should have NEVER been the #7 pick that year - I was sick when they announced it! Josh Howard, David West or even Brian Cook would have been a better pick.

Dee Brown can give you anything Rose can. Get Dee and draft Beasley. Lets bring Dee back home.........

Anonymous said...

Rose has Jordan-like potential. Beasley has Marcus Fizer written all over him. Look at what Chris Paul and Deron Williams are doing in the league with the supporting cast around them. Rose is a cross between the two.

IRBW

Anonymous said...

I agree, i think someone accidentally hit the Dee Brown key instead of the Deron Willimas key.....

Anonymous said...

IRW is correct - Rose will be pick...as IRW indicates, Paul and Williams are the best evidence that penetrating, smart point guard get you to promised land quicker....on side note, I thought T Thomas was a riskier pick than LaMarcus and feel vindicated for now....hope Tyrus proves me wrong but don't think he will....he has great talent and a screw loose

Anonymous said...

Draft Rose.

Gooden is better than a "role" player. Looks like he got 12 and 9 per game. With Rose dishing/slashing, that could bump to like 17 and 13, maybe even 20 and 15. I'll take that every game, rather than draft Beasley and watch another year(s) of mundane guard play as Beasley turns into Tyrus Thomas and is traded then blossoms elsewhere.

I refuse to talk baseball until flag day - June 14th. - I will say that Fukudome may want to consider hitting the ball before he starts running to first base, I like Ludwig. - Lakers, Celtics - the more things change the more they stay the same - I'm pullin for the spurs and bad boys. I'd take Rose.
