But the Nudie Suit Lives On

Legendary Country Gentleman Porter Wagoner has died at age 80. The video below tells you quite a bit about PW. Partners with Dolly Parton, good natured, greatest dresser in the history of Country Music, hair up there with the greats, nearly Charlie Rich in its legendary pomp, huge smile reflecting a lack of orthodontics common in its day-yet never backing down from flashing it, bouncey sort of menacing song of stealing money to go drinking but still happy about it. Porter Wagoner was one of the greats, and will be surely mourned by Wapella.com. For now dry your eyes and enjoy PW at his best in this clip from the Porter Wagoner show.

I must say that prior to seeing this video, I was in a state of ignorance regarding the considerable skills of Mr. P. Wagoner. RIP PW! However, Ms. Parton was and is a first rate talent with a genuine stage presence. I may become a more committed country music fan.

Yep, but I bet he never wore one of Gram Parsons' nudie suits! (if you have ever heard of Gram - Byrds, Flying Burrito Bros, you'll know what I'm talking about).

Nice call, Sempleman.

Gram Parsons = underrated. He got The Stones into country. He helped make one of the best Byrds records. If not for GP, the "alt-country" genre might not exist, which may not be a bad thing, but yeah, no Gram, no Ryan Adams, no Wilco, etc.

No "Almost Blue", No Nick Lowe/Brinsley Schwarz, No Long Ryders, and even a bit less Waylon without Gram Parsons.

On the negative side, he also inspired the Eagles and "Joshua Tree", both of which I could do without (except for Jackson Browne's "Take it Easy", or course)
