Friday Afternoon, Time for a Pint with Rod and two Ronnies
Here is 1971 at it's best with The Faces, featuring Ronnie Wood on lead guitar, Ronnie Lane on bass and the surprisingly still healthy Rod Stewart belting it out. That's Kenny Jones not exactly keeping time on drums (I read that Ronnie Wood kept changing tempo on the original, and Kenny was just keeping up with him).
For two points, what group did Kenny Jones join after their wild and famous drummer died?

I've noticed that when I have a beer with my mexican food I don't have to run to the toilet posthaste. When I don't have the beer, I do.

Greil Marcus wrote an article about how no one in rock'n'roll sold out/betrayed their talent quite like Rod did. It's in a collection called "In the Fascist Bathroom," I think. Anyway, good article.
Having grown up seeing only the Rod Stewart who wore pink and sang crummy radio tunes, it took me awhile to accept the fact that The Faces records and Rod's first 3-4 solo records were great r'n'r.

You punks must have missed Stewart doing "Cigarettes and Alcohol" in 1998 as well as "Hotel Chambermaid" from the same album.
Stewart always has rocked. Nobody does a cover version like The Tartanned One.

Given Rod's luck with the ladies, I would take a shot at being a Mary Kay salesman, if wearing pink was all it took.
After watching this, I now know where the great one got his moves (WHT) especially when Rod say's "Slow down!" RJT

I think you've got that backwards. I think this video explains that Rod Steward got some of his best moves from WHT, not the other way around.
Ronnie Lane (the legendary bass player) has a look of sheer elation (like he just got back from Decatur) near the end of the video.

Don't forget his vocals with the Jeff Beck Group (I Ain't Superstitious).
There's a couple of good tracks on the CD with Cigarettes and Alcohol, and his "Unplugged...and Seated" on MTV wasn't too bad, mostly because of Ronnie Wood. But at least he wasn't singing the Great American Songbook (yaaaawwn)
Really...we don't need Steve Perry back in any form. Or Journey for that matter. I can listen to the records. I always liked Gregg Rollie's songs better anyway.

I will respectfully disagree with you. I think this country is in need of more Steve Perry--maybe a lot more. I was not an original fan in the early 80s, but my college roommate, the late great Don Lopez, made a believer out of me. Don't Stop Believin'...!

While I have a soft spot in my heart for REP Speedwagon, there is nothing like a little Skynyrd. Nothing like "Sweet Home Alabama" to get the locals fired up.
BBD has always been partial to "Freebird". I have found that yelling "play Freebird" in a bar with a live band is a sure fire way to get asked to leave.
I do it anyway. Try it some time.

Magic 104 was playing some sweetness this morning at HG's breakfast nook. Heard back-to-back 1) Journey's Steve Perry belt out the "Lights" anthem, followed up by 2) Illinois' own REO Speedwagon singing the signature tune "Take it on the Run."

I think Oasis Cigarettes & Alcohol is by far better than tight pants Rod's version. EEP would probably agree. Let the war begin!

While I appreciate the sentiment behind Rod covering C&A, IRBW is correct: his version butchers the Gallagher brothers (not Bobby and Jimmy) orig. version.
Then again, IRBW does not like either "Lights" or "Wheel in the Sky" which I consider two of Journey's finer efforts.
Sorry Sempleman,you are dead wrong on Steve Perry. HG is right, without a doubt we need more Steve Perry these days. Same goes for Kevin Cronin (wish he still had the 'fro) and the boys from REO. Caught them in concert last year, still a good time.
If you would have had Journey and REO (among many, many others) pounded into your head during the 80s, you'd feel the way I do too.
Personally, I can't stand anything REO did from Hi Infidelity on, mostly because they played it to death. Gimme "R.E.O./T.W.O.," when they still sounded like that bar band from Champaign that played at the Red Lion Inn.
Spending a year at ISU's Watterson Towers where 90% of the population is from Chicago and there are more people who live in the building than live in your hometown has a way of changing your musical tastes when you start to get turned on to stuff like good ol' west side Chicago electric blues. That makes you go "Kevin who?"
80's arena rock big hair/tight pants/power ballads will always be classic! Cruising Hog City with "Keep on Loving You" blaring on the radio, a bottle of Boone's Strawberry Hill, while dodging Gib.
