RIP Mitch Mitchell with PS/ What to do When Your Neck is on Fire

No, not the guy from the sing-along albums (That is Mitch Miller and he is very much alive at age 97), but Mitch Mitchell the English drummer for the Jimi Hendrix Experience has died at age 61. Mitchell rocked with the Pretty Things and Georgie Fame before connecting with Jimi Hendrix in 1966 in "a sleazy little club" playing Chuck Berry.

Mitchell performed with Hendrix and Redding at the Monterey Pop Festival in June 1967, the U.S. debut of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. He also was member of a later version of the band that performed the closing set of the Woodstock Festival in August 1969.

Mitchell was the last surviving member of Hendrix' trio, with bassist Noel Redding passing away in 2003. Here's the Jimi Hendrix Experience with their rocking version of Sgt. Pepper's (with George Harrison and Paul McCartney watching out for their ears in the audience)

P.S.

Does anyone notice anything a bit out of place in this video of Eric Clapton demonstrating guitar functionality? It was probably not out of place when the video was recorded, but looks like a relic now. Clapton also mysteriously grows a mustache during the interview.

Sorry to high jack the site. last weekend we had a booth in Palatine IL at the great american food expo. a gentlemen with the last name of "Jensen" came up after recognizing the Toohill name. He mentioned that his Grandmother was a Donovan. Said he had been to the Reunion as a child and remembered the Heyworth Wapella area. We got to talking about possible relatives we had in common. Any thoughts? Please advise

Old Cuz,

Bill Donovan, from Irish Row, lived in Racine and worked for JI Case. Bill died a few years ago, but his wife Frieda is still going strong. I think Bill also lived where Sonny Nelson lived between Wapella and Clinton for a while, but there was a fire or something..or possibly he was already out of town by then.

He had one daughter, Patty, married to a Jensen (or is it Jansen?) and many grandkids. Mike and Dan come to mind, as regular attendees of the Donovan reunion. I am sure they have brought their kids over the years.

Bill Donovan is Helen Ryan's brother, if you need another celebrity connection, and my first cousin-once-removed.

Correct me other Donovan's if I have this mixed up.

Grandmother was a Donovan? Head for the hills is my advice. I know plenty of their grandkids around Hog City.

Hendrix is overrated. A good guitar player, but the tunes were boring. Gimmie Townshend any day.

That being said, any Donovans in either The JHE or The WHO?

Dear Anonymous,

None of my grandmother's grandchildren live within 150 miles of Hog City. You must be mistaken.
