Larry Storch for Governor

Wapella.com studiously avoids internet comedy that intentionally tries to be funny. But here is an exception. In tribue to Corporal Randolph Agarn, the Chicago SunTimes has doctored up a photo of Governor Blagojevich in western attire.

I don't know for sure that the Sun-Times meant this to be Cpl. Agarn, but the similarity is striking.

Larry does have military service which is a plus. His relations with Native Americans shows experience in domestic matters.

Larry Hovis, who played Sgt. Carter in Hogan's Heroes, also has military experience.

Woodrow Wilson was the Billary of his day: he couldn't get the US into the League of Nations because he didn't ask for help.

We did tour his boyhood home in Staunton, VA as children. I also visited Chapultepec Castle, home of Maximilian, Emporer of Mexico. I think he was clad when he was deposed.

Remember the words of HH Morant at the end of the film, "this is what comes of empire building".

No off topic posts concerning fiat currency here please. Comment concerning the Ooms family Karmenn Ghia, which was sort of designed by a guy from Fiat are welcome.

I think this blog is getting hijacked by long-winded stonecutters and short winded palaminos.

Good grief people.

HG,

Your early explanation (of the subject we are no longer allowed to discuss) was by far the best and easiest to understand. You are obviously the smartest one of the bunch.

In the course of time, Bill D. may prove to be the smartest of the bunch. If not the smartest, then the best prepared.
In some scenarios, the best prepared is the smartest one of the bunch.

Given enough time, all the scenarios will come to pass.

Can you name the person from Wapella who I met and hung out with? While I was in office.

Dear Stonecutter,

I too will place my money on Bill D. in a Hobbsian world. Preparation trumps wit most days of the year!

Blago may want to deploy some of out-of-work Serbian cousins. Things have been slow since their ethnic cleansing days.

Snake Plissken would make a fine chief of police for the City with the Big Shoulders.

Illinois has proven once again that most politicians there are bumblers: from Geo. R to Blago to Jim R. to Keyes. To the Ill GOP: YOU are responsible for Obama's ascent to where he is. Sleep on that.

Heard from Brian O'Nolan yesterday. He faked his demise in 1966 to join the Jesuits. When he was rebuffed he began studying to be a dentist in Dallas City, since there was none there. He continues to study, a mail order program no less. He walks back and forth to Clinton on a regular basis.

He tells me Mary R likes to kiss and tell.

BEP-
Amen to your post re: the IL GOP, my brother! They blew it,and now Mr. Community Activist {read: agitator} wants to give us all his brand of "change." He's a shoe-in for the "cemetary" vote. We need another Ronaldus Magnus now, more than ever.

Blago is a buffoon. Daley is a buffoon. "Minorities" have been shooting up the streets of Chicago for decades {so much for that "handgun ban" law}, but now Blago's gonna "clean up" the city. Yeah, right. How? By shipping the lowlifes off to the South Suburbs and the B-N area like Daley did before him? All that did was export the crime to new and untapped areas of "opportunity."

Larry Storch couldn't do any worse as Gov. of the once great state of IL, but I'd prefer to ship our own "actor/Governator" to IL, instead. Under this RINO, you could all be mandated to drive Priuses, grow "organic" corn and soybeans, "conserve" water and electriciy under the constant threat of having your supplies cut off, and switch over to "hybrid" tractors/combines/grain trucks. Now wouldn't THAT be fun?

OT...WHO is the drunken troll posting all the financial rants, Presidential quotes and anti-social song lyrics? Get a life, or move to Cuba! I hear they have great gov't. healthcare and [re]education programs there.

My Dear Classmates So Cal & BEP,

Looks like this blog is moving into precarious political territory (see Pantagraph comment pages), re comments on Governer Blagojevich, Senator Obama, and Mayor Daley. To stand up for the many Wapellacans of the D persuasion, I'm willing to put up a spirited defense (in rank order) for Senator Obama and Mayor Daley, and a spirited critique of Pres. Reagan, but, to be honest, it's probably a waste of time on a blog.

I'm with you So Cal in that financial rants have run their course!

SO CAL rocks. North County is pretty conservative. Concur with HG that w.com won't solve any political issues, so why bother. It's just that the whole economic thing was so wild: as Mr. Freeze said, "wild Batman, simply wild".

I talked to some Fenians in a pub and offered to help them get their names on the November ballot. All were reluctant. They directed me to Americans of nobility: the Dukes of New York, Paducah and Hazzard and suggested a constitutional monarchy. I thanked them for their time and offered them some Irish sunscreen.

Michael Collins

"Michael Collins" -
How's Eamon De Valera these days? [just kidding]

Glad you think I "rock," although you didn't offer me any of that Irish sunscreen. ;-) North County, along with "The O. C." are more conservative than other areas of CA, but I was an "evil" member of the VRWC long before moving here.

As for that "constitutional monarchy" your Fenian friends suggested...no need for that. The "Messiah" is on his way, don'tcha know?

HG, I didn't mean to offend your "D" sensibilities, or cause a "political firestorm" here on W.com. And, we're not going to change each other's minds...so we can agree to disagree. :-)

The Dev and I have not spoken since the Free State was founded. We had that little falling out known as the Civil War. I can forgive and forget.

We have not been able to agree to a Sinn Fein candidate, too much drinking and carrying on to get to the bottom of it.

On a serious note, the junior senator from Illinois did not bother to vote for the farm bill. Is he not interested? Is he too busy? As an Illinois farmer he fails me. John McCain voted against the bill. He too fails.

I will run as the Land League candidate and promise to help the American farmer.

If an alien were to watch all the tv coverage, he would think we had a candidate running with the last name Change.
He might not be sure exactly which candidate it was but it would be fairly obvious that someone with the last name Change was running, simply with the signage and what it used to mean.

That is exactly who I am going to vote for, Change.

I will take a pen and write in Change.

I got a phone call the other night telling me I had to check out our little .com.

It's been months since I've been here and It has taken a couple of days for me to catch up.
I agree with whoever said Wild Batman Wild.

To those who said it was boring, I disagree. It was some of the best stuff yet.

Some people get bored with you guys talking about Ginger, Maryanne and Shannon Tweed. We all know it is code for...I've got Tivo now and I can pause there face in any expression for later use.

Wouldn't it have been great to have Tivo when we were teenagers? Judy Fraser would have hit my pause button.

I watched that film Money as Debt tonight and I was concerned until it dawned on me that our system is a quasi barter system and HG summed it up best in one of the first letters written on the subject.

I think we should all fish and grow some of our own vegetables anyway.

My advice is...
Be Good.

"Parnell"-

If you run, I will vote for you, as I'm certain that you would be highly effective...much more so than the current "crop" of candidates. I'll even volunteer to help with your campaign. :-)

What makes "anonymous" think that I am a man? I have not engaged in personal attacks or rude behavior toward anyone here at w.com. Because I directed criticism toward certain public figures, does not mean that I am personally attacking anyone here. Also, I am not the only one to post comments re: said public figures.

I consider some of the people here at this site to be lifelong friends, and I respect them and their views, regardless of whether they coincide with mine or not.

Methinks that "anonymous'" post being censored was quite possibly the result of "anonymous" engaging in intolerant, ad hominem attacks toward me, personally. What a shame.

The moderator is removing many posts, which is fine by me.

I want more information about Larry Storch. I think he is a great entertainer.

JBP

Anonymous said...

JBP, here's some "Larry" info. for you:

{Storch}inadvertently set in motion the Cary Grant line, "Judy, Judy, Judy..." during one of his nightclub acts. Legend has it that Storch was in the middle of a Grant impersonation when Judy Garland walked in. Apparently, this is how he addressed the star. Even though the line was never said in any of Grant's movies, Storch's impression inexplicably stuck and was often used by other impressionists.

Fascinating...

Three cheers for a moderate moderator. Three boos for lack of civil and moderate discourse on the pages of w.com. My classmate, the R-leaning So. Cal. is a fine Wildcat and deserves all due respect.

As for Storch. I did a little wikipedia work and was amazed at the versatility of the under-appreciated comic. A sample---he did the voiceover for Mr. Whoopie on Tennesee Tuxedo; he appeared in a 1975! version of Ghost Busters with Forrest Tucker; he also originated the catch phrase Judy, Judy, Judy.

HG, you are a true gentleman, as you have always been. :-) And, Tennessee Tuxedo was a childhood favorite of mine. Glad to know that Storch had a hand in that fine production!

I am generally against censorship also, but old schoolgirl rivalries and burns can go somewhere else.

I want to point out that it was not the discussion of Fiat money that started all this, It was discussion of their Majesties Sen. Obama and McCain.

I quite enjoyed the engaging conversation about our financial system. It made me think, and it is good to think about new things.

JMP said...

Dear Anon,

I agree the fiat money discussion was not all that bad, though a couple went on a bit long.

However, I will take D and R exception to your equal characterization of Sens. McCain and Obama as "their Majesties." I think they're both basically decent people, with some human failures, who are trying to be good public servants. It's too easy today to take pot shots at the guys on point, and both these guys are taking it from all sides. I give them both a hand for putting up with often undeserved zingers.

Two cheers for Barack and John (one for each).

HG

Anonymous said...

HG,

Once again you are right. Both are good men, thank God.

The Majesties remark is only a jab at the senate, which is like our House of Lords.

I just wish one of the 100 would have taken the time to read the Patriot Act before they signed it.

We all know none of the 435 did.

Anyone seen The Dark Knight?

They used a Richard Powers Idea (Dilemma) for one part and it is obviously a morality play about one particular current event overall.

Anonymous said...

Dear Anon,

I wish Sens. M & O had executive experience beyond the "House of Lords," as you say. Neither of them have managed a staff of any size, except in campaign mode.

Have not seen the Richard Powers inspired(?) Dark Knight. Can recommend highly 1963's "The Leopard" and academy award winner "Tom Jones," as well as 2007's "Walk Hard."

Speaking of amazing film, I'm not sure why Dax Shepherd didn't win the 2006 Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Employee of the Month.

Starring the hugely unlikable Dane Cook, Dax owns the movie as Cook's arch-nemesis, head cashier and fastest checker in the Southwest region, Vince Downey.

Terrible movie. Amazing performance.
