Wapella.com Mourns the Passing of Carol Ann Morris

Carol Ann Morris, 78, Wapella, died at 2:25 p.m. Monday (Aug. 22, 2011) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.

Her graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Long Point Cemetery, Wapella. J. Kent Hickerson will officiate. Burial will be at Long Point Cemetery, Wapella. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Carol Ann Morris Memorial Fund.

She was born March 5, 1933, in Wapella, daughter of Fletcher and Marion Carl Ellis. She married Kenneth H. “Bill” Morris on Dec. 23, 1950, in Wapella. He passed away March 30, 2009.

Surviving are children, Kim (Brad) Karr, Wapella, and Kenneth (Tonja) Morris, LeRoy; two granddaughters, Sada (Ryan) McGee, DeWitt, and Lynn (Chad) Schmid, Clinton; five grandsons, Jason (Trudy) Karr, Clinton; John Karr, Wapella; David (Heather) Taylor, Greencastle, Ind.; Brandon Karr, Clinton; and Kenneth Tyler Morris, Wapella; four great-grandsons, Blake Karr, Nick Zenger, Nate Zenger and Raylan Schmid; one great-granddaughter, Savannah McGee; and one brother, Bill (Betty) Ellis, Clinton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one granddaughter.

Carol Ann Morris was considered by man to be the First Lady of Wapella, a title she earned in conjunction with her husband Bill Morris, a community leader. She was a secretary at Holland Brothers, Wapella, for 30 years, and was a great neighbor and friend to the Village of Wapella. She enjoyed quilting.

Wapella.com Mourns the Passing of Robert Wilson


Robert D. Wilson, 77, of DeWitt died at midnight Saturday (Aug. 20, 2011) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. The Rev. Mary Louise Haxton and J. Kent Hickerson will officiate. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wapella, with military honors accorded. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to DeWitt County 4-H Foundation or DeWitt County Museum.
He was born in DeWitt County on Dec. 13, 1933, a son of Burl D. and Evelyn Fern Rolofson Wilson. He graduated from Wapella High School. He married Helen Bray on Aug. 15, 1953, in Clinton. She survives.

Also surviving are two children, Rodney D. (Debra) Wilson and Polly A. (Terry) Daugherty, both of Clinton; four grandchildren, Sarah J. (Michael) Oldham of Downers Grove, Ryan D. (Sarah) Wilson of Lindenhurst, Chad L. (Nichole) Daugherty of Cero Gordo and Chase M. Daugherty of Clinton; three great-grandchildren, Payton and Preston Oldham and Haley Daugherty; and one sister, Donna L. Stivers of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of LeRoy United Methodist Church and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a lifetime member of Moose Lodge and a retired farmer. He was a member of the DeWitt County Farm Bureau, American Legion and DeWitt County Museum.
